As the thirteenth week of the Vendée Globe draws to a close – following the retirement of Arnaud Boissières, 11 sailors remain at sea on Friday – Tip & Shaft spoke to the president of the Imoca class, Antoine Mermod, who shares his views on the tenth edition of the race.

12th four years ago, Clarisse Crémer took 11th place in the Vendée Globe 2024-2025 on Monday after 77 days 15 hours and 34 minutes. She then set course for La Rochelle, with the Les Sables channel closed due to storm conditions. Before sailing back up the channel on Saturday, she spoke to Tip & Shaft about her second circumnavigation.

With the arrival, at 1.27 am on Friday, of the third-placed Sébastien Simon, the podium in the Vendée Globe 2024-2025 is complete, with Charlie Dalin having won on Tuesday just under a day ahead of Yoann Richomme. This is an opportunity for Tip & Shaft, present in Les Sables d’Olonne, to draw some initial conclusions from a record race (64 days 19 hours 22 minutes) in the company of a number of experts we met there.

At 34, Sam Goodchild is about to take part in his first Vendée Globe aboard Vulnerable, the Verdier design launched in 2019 on which Thomas Ruyant raced in the last edition. Having just arrived on the Vendée Globe pontoon in Les Sables d’Olonne on Thursday, the Briton spoke to Tip & Shaft. 

At just 31 years of age, Alan Roura is about to take part in his third Vendée Globe (12th in 2016, 17th in 2020). With an Imoca boat, Hublot, Alex Thomson’s former Hugo Boss, which he has taken a long time to get to grips with and optimise, and with his sporting ambitions on the up. The Swiss sailor spoke to Tip & Shaft.
